The ship’s history
The history of the ship dates back to the beginning 20th century. In 1903, she was commissioned by the Russian tsar dynasty at the Somorsky shipyard. The Romanov dynasty used it as an excursion ship, serving on the Caucasus, Mercury and Volga rivers under the name „Prince Alexander Mikhailovich”. The ship was present at all important events before the turn of the century as well as later.
In 1917, it received a new name. It was renamed Kharkiv and ran under this name until 1924. Then, was renamed again, to „Memorial of comrade Azina”, and after that, to „Memorial of Azina”. There is no more information about this period in the Russian shipping archives. In 1996, it became Albanian property under the name Iliria. It was then rebuilt to its current form. During the restoration, the largest suite, which was designed for the tsar, was created based on the original plans. The furniture, which is still in it today, was also manufactured based on the plans of that time.
A part of the ship’s steam engine can still be seen today in our exclusive cafe room, through a truly impressive glass floor.
The ship served mainly on the Russian rivers (Caucasus, Mercury).
